Speech-Language Services at KU Medical Center

Who we are

The clinic offers comprehensive services to people with communicative disorders throughout the Kansas City area. All services are supervised by clinical faculty who maintain the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and who are licensed through the Kansas Department for Aging and Disability Services.

In addition to providing comprehensive services to individuals with communication disorders, the clinic also provides professional clinical training for graduate students in KU's speech-language pathology programs.

Building upon this relationship with the KU Department of Hearing and Speech, the clinic provides KU students with opportunities for essential experience in a modern clinical setting.

What is a speech-language pathologist?

Speech disorders occur when a person is unable to produce speech sounds correctly or fluently, or has problems with his or her voice or resonance. Language disorders occur when a person has trouble understanding others or sharing thoughts, ideas, and feelings.

Speech-language pathologists, sometimes called speech therapists, work to help children and adults facing impairments in speech, language, swallowing and social communication.
